About Kindness is Cool
Our vision is to bring all citizens together to create a community of tolerance, caring compassion and acceptance through kindness, promoting kindness as a way of life. By example and deeds, we hope to give our young people the knowledge that they can begin to make their world a better place. They can do this by reaching out to others, not with fist or weapons, but with their hearts.
The Canada Day Float
The youth-focused Kindness is Cool Team launched a float at the Canada Day 2000 Parade in Abbotsford to raise awareness for kindness. They not only won the hearts of 10,000 spectators but also won first prize in their category and were so well received that they returned for four more runs - Canada Day 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004!

The Launch of the First Kindness is Cool Float at the Canada Day Parade, July 1, 2000
Approximately 10,000 spectators lined the streets to watch the parade. Our group, Kindness Is Cool, participated in the parade with a float. Our theme was kindness: kindness in the community, in school, at work and at home. Canada Day was the main focus so we added a little humor with a banner that read, "Be a kind Canadian, Eh!" Several people from our group walked along side the float and handed out "silk flowers" and "I'm a Kindness Kid" badges.
The float was a success, we won first place in our category! The best part for us was the thumbs up and applause we received from the crowd. Comments like, "It's about time" and "what a great idea" was shouted out all along the parade route.
Several days after the parade we received a voice message from a lady who attended the parade. Apparently, she was recently widowed and because this was the first parade her husband wasn't with her she was feeling quite sad. She called to thank us for the flower and said we really made her smile, somehow she didn't feel quite so lonely anymore.
All the planning, fund raising and decorating was absolutely worth it for that single phone call.
