  Kindness in Victoria

About Us

The Victoria Kindness Group was founded in 1995 with a view to raising community consciousness around the importance of kindness in our daily lives. This group, which varies in size and activities over time, aligns itself very much with the vision and goals of our Vancouver colleagues, and is very supportive of their activities. In a reciprocal way, the Vancouver and Edmonton groups are supportive of the many activities and initiatives that originate in Victoria.

Our mission statement is "We will raise awareness about the importance of random acts of kindness in communities of all kinds in the Greater Victoria area, and we will encourage and assist the formation and activities of other kindness groups throughout the Province of BC."

Our Activities

Click onto the following program links for more information.

  • Initiation of a University/College Initiative, this being the highly successful 'Lightness and Kindness'.
  • The Victoria Kindness on the Streets Initiative, called 'Ride Kind-Drive Kind' (spearheaded by BC Transit and ICBC), has had two highly successful campaigns in 1996 and 2000.
  • Creation of thought provoking kindness slogans through our 'Slogan Campaign', the results of which may be used for bumper stickers, advertising and artwork.
  • Expansion of Workplace Initiatives originated in Vancouver to private and public organizations in the Victoria area, such as the Kindness to Kolleagues program.
  • Expansion and addition to School Initiatives originated in Edmonton and Vancouver to many schools in the Greater Victoria area.
  • Visioning on a Legislature Initiative that would draw attention to the rather disheartening behavior in the BC Legislature, and the encouragement of a program promoting dignity and respect even for those you disagree with.
  • Contribution to Special Focus Initiatives originated by others, such as 'Cycling for Kindness', 'Clam Chowder for the Soul' and the Coin-spiracy initiative.
  • Contact Craig Harrold at charrold@telus.net for information on programs prior to 2001. (Craig led the Victoria group in 1998 to 2001, and is active with B.C. activities from his present home on the Vancouver Lower Mainland.)
